What cookies this site uses, why, and how to control them.
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your web browser when you visit a website. They allow websites to remember information about your visit — for example, whether you have already accepted a cookie notice — and allow analytics services to count visits and measure how pages perform.
This site uses cookies for two purposes: to remember your cookie consent choice, and to collect anonymous analytics data through Google Analytics and serve advertising through Google AdSense. We do not use cookies for any other purpose. We do not use cookies to store personal information about you, track you across unrelated websites in any first-party capacity, or sell data to third parties.
| Cookie name | Provider | Purpose | Expiry | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| itr_consent | This site (local storage) | Stores your cookie consent choice so the banner does not reappear on every page | Persistent (no expiry) | Essential / Functional |
| _ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes unique users; used to calculate visit counts and traffic sources | 2 years | Analytics |
| _gid | Google Analytics | Distinguishes users across a single day; resets daily | 24 hours | Analytics |
| _gat | Google Analytics | Throttles request rate to limit data collection on high-traffic pages | 1 minute | Analytics |
| NID, DSID, IDE, __gads, __gpi | Google AdSense | Used to serve relevant advertisements and measure ad performance | Up to 13 months | Advertising |
The consent preference (itr_consent) is stored in your browser's local storage rather than as a cookie file. It functions the same way but is not transmitted with page requests. It contains only a value indicating whether you accepted or declined optional cookies.
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use this site — which pages are read most, how long people spend on a page, and what search terms bring people here. This data is aggregated and anonymous. We cannot identify individual visitors from Analytics data.
The _ga, _gid and _gat cookies are set by Google on our behalf. The data they collect is processed by Google in accordance with Google's privacy policy. You can find information about how Google uses data from partner sites at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Advertising on this site is served through Google AdSense. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. The cookies used for advertising are set by Google, not by us. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of third-party vendor use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.com.
You can control and manage cookies through your browser settings. The process varies by browser:
Deleting cookies will remove any saved preferences including your consent choice. If you delete the itr_consent local storage item, the cookie banner will appear again on your next visit.
Blocking all cookies may affect the functionality of some websites. Blocking Google Analytics and AdSense cookies will not affect your ability to use Irish Tax Refund Guide.
If we introduce new cookies or change the purpose of existing ones, we will update this page and, where required, ask for your consent again. The date at the bottom of this page reflects when it was last reviewed.
